Kindergarten Roundup

Is your child starting kindergarten

at UP in the fall?

Read on!

“Kindergarten Roundup” is the HPISD district-wide effort to enter all new families into the HPISD system (called “Skyward”) and to begin educating parents on all things HPISD, UP, and kindergarten. All the following information (and more) is available on the HPISD website, (“Parents/Students” tab, “Enrolling a New Student” page). The following information is a summary of what is found on the HPISD page.

Step 1: Skyward and documentation

Starting on February 3, 2025, parents are encouraged to create a new Skyward account. This will officially enter your family and your student into the HPISD system.

Upon creating a new account, parents will be asked to submit preliminary residency documentation via the document uploader in Skyward. These documents will be submitted again in the summer during the annual districtwide “Back to School Signup” (“BSSU”) process that all students, both new and current, complete. Registration in Skyward will automatically enroll you to receive all BSSU notifications.

Step 2: UP Kindergarten Roundup Meeting

On February 18th at 9:00am in the cafeteria at University Park Elementary, Principal Kim Banuelos will host a meeting for all incoming kindergarten parents for a full overview of the Highland Park school system, University Park Elementary, and kindergarten. Parents will be introduced to key members of the school community and get a chance to ask questions. Make sure to put this meeting on your calendar!

Further learning opportunity: On Tuesday, May 13 at 7:30pm at 3445 Amherst, Current UP and former UPPA veteran parents Tory Cardone and Sara Sherrieb will host a “Kindergarten 101” (available for preview here) meeting to cover topics ranging from important school dates to put on your calendar, how to get more involved, what to pack in your child’s lunch, what they do all day, and how to drop off and pickup from school. Come learn and ask questions and meet and mingle with other parents!
